In 2005, I undertook a journey of tracking down people in my past who had a great impact on me. In the process, I rekindled a childhood relationship with Terri, my best friend at 5 years old. I found my first love, my highschool sweetheart, Frank, whom I had not seen or spoken to in over 30 years. I reconnected with my wonderful long time ago friend Jeanne Mae from my California days. These three people saved my life. I know that now, though I had no idea at the time of our budding friendships. Much of my work is inspired by those relationships and what I learned from them.
I also rely heavily on my family experiences, particularly those that either propelled me forward or trapped me in my own emotional torture chamber. As with most families, there is good and there is bad, but what we make of our childhood has potential for amazing opportunity for faith, personal growth and service to others.

For Jeanne Mae - Memories Not Quite Done

On the Road to St. Louis
Breathing the same nightime sky
I somersault through the stars
drawn to the vibration of the moonlit highway
and the sound of a long ago voice that is
so beautiful I want to cry.
Relaxed in the passenger seat of that big rig
I watch you morph from the boy I remember
to the full grown man that you are now
all the while wondering how you see me
and hoping you don't think I'm crazy.
Too soon the time comes to leave the night
as earthly obligations demand my attention.
Even so, I marvel at the power of this road
to connect over thirty years of distance
until there is none.
