stumbling in unexpectedly
the room awoke with a clatter
tired of the scorching heat
the pavement cried
for the coolness of night
the ethos of self righteousness
kills the messenger
of hope and promise
Texas skies
never far from my mind
keep me safe and warm
we cannot be the light
until we live in the dark
haze of morning light
bounces off blades of fresh mown grass
the sparrow listens
Streams of morning light
uncover a new day
The dog yawns
the hint
of unexpected truth
jolts the world
honey sweet warmth
of a chance meeting
catches my breath
in the backyard
behind the oleander
dreams captive still
Blink back
to simple promises
of the mind’s eye
when imagination,
untainted by the world of adults,
left the two of us
free to be wild
in the joyous possibilities
of our childhood.
blissful lovers
walk
the end
around the bend
walking back from your house
red death apparel
chokes envy
green and deep
… the sun, ready to return
gives strength and promise
to budding life
Saffron gates billow –
joy leaps!
Robot memories
not yet discarded
keep the reluctant wife in check
In spite of everything, wildflowers jubilate.
I was caught by a tremendous fish
who bound me up
out of water
his hook fast in the corner of my mouth.
(influenced by Elizabeth Bishop)
spirit rape
of
heart pain lies
rummaging through
middens of
blackened afterbirth
and
tire track eyes.
bright yellow hope
seeps in uninvited
